What are the characteristics of road stud reflector products? They are designed to reflect light to the outside so that it looks like the road the bicyclist is riding on. They are reflective of all road surface types. However, they do not illuminate the road surface. They make up the roadway only if a driver approaches the roadway from the right side but never passes below the street on the left side since the road may be wide enough for the bicyclist to be safely crossing without stopping.Where are the studs that are installed during install of street trees?Road stud reflectors use two sets of reflective material, called "bamboo" and "plastic" to reflect light to the road surface. "Bamboo" material absorbs as much as 99.5% of the light, while the plastic uses about 1/3 of the energy. The metal "plate" that holds the reflective material is either metal or rubber.

Installation and maintenance of road stud reflector products.(a) Maintenance of road studs. The department shall maintain road stud reflectors. Upon installation of studs, the stud shall be inspected for proper placement to insure that the stud is set at the desired position. If the studs are set at a position which is too low to meet minimum visibility requirements, the department may erect road stud reflectors in such other position so as to meet minimum visibility requirements. However, when the studs are placed in positions that are too high, damage to trees and shrubs or other objects along the roadway may prevent the lighting of the road which may impair compliance with lighting requirements. The department shall provide road stud reflectors products at reasonable cost and shall provide a method for a person who desires reflectors to request such reflectors free of charge, but in no event shall road stud reflectors be provided free of charge.
